The late Dr. Edgar Mitchell, Dr. Rudy Schild (a 75 year old Emeritus Professor of Astrophysics at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Attorney and Experiencer Rey Hernandez, and Australian Researcher Mary Rodwell, are the Co-Founders of an academic based not-for-profit titled "The Dr. Edgar Mitchell Foundation for Research into Extraterrestrial Encounters, FREE". FREE has established a Research Committee, co-chaired by Dr. Jon Klimo, a retired tenured professor of Psychology who is recognized as one of the world's leading researchers on the paranormal. Jon also taught research methodology for almost 40 years. (http://www.jonklimo.com/about.htm) The other co-chair is Dr. Bob Davis, also a recently retired tenured professor of Neuroscience who, together with his wife, saw 2 UFOs almost 5 years ago while on vacation in in Sedona, NV. (https://theufophenomenon.com/) The other Ph.D.s are Dr. Leo Sprinkle, Dr. Illobrand von Ludwiger, a physicist from Germany, and Dr. Rudy Schild. All are on our FREE Board of Directors. The other members of our Research Committee and Board of Directors are Kathleen Marden, Mary Rodwell, Rosemary Ellen Guilley, and Giorgio Piacenza from Peru. Over the last 2 years, FREE has undertaken the world's first comprehensive academic research study on individuals that have had UFO related contact experiences with non human intelligence. Our FREE Experiencer Research Study has 4 Phases. Phase 1 and 2 are quantitative surveys comprise of almost 600 questions. Phase 3 is comprised of 70 open-ended questions, and Phase 4 will be a formal structured interview. As of December 1, 2016 when we closed our English language survey, we have received more than 2,200 responses for Phase 1, 1,300 responses to both Phases 1 & 2, and 780 responses to Phases 1-3. Our interviews will begin in July or August of this year. We are also conducting our research study in the Spanish, French, and German languages and hopefully other languages in the future. Our preliminary research findings from Phase 1 and Phase 2 are contradicting much of the information that is being widely circulated in the Internet and what the majority of Ufologists are presenting in the UFO lecture circuit. There are possibly many reasons why our study has revealed such different data results. First, no one has ever undertaken a comprehensive academic study of experiencers of UFO related contact with non human intelligence. Thus, there is very little statistical data to compare our research to. There have also been a few studies in this field but all have focused on "abductions", most had small samples, most had a small number of questions solely related to "abductions", all were not anonymously collected, and the publicity was solely to UFOlogists and abduction researchers. Our research methodology was completely different than what had been utilized in the past.
